Dear friends and readers,
It is a pleasure to share a very special invitation with you. As part of the official Book Week celebrations in the Community of Madrid, I will be hosting an event that brings together research, lived experience, and literature in a place with as much character as Vallecas.
What will we talk about?
Under the title "Hostile City: Intersectionality and the multispecies home as refuge and frontier", we will delve into a reality that often remains invisible in traditional urbanism.
We will explore how bonds with our animal kin challenge the physical and symbolic boundaries of the city, turning the home into a true space of resistance. It is not just about cohabitation; it is about analysing, through an intersectional and LGBTQI+ lens, how the right to belonging and to the city is shaped by who we are and whom we choose to share our lives with.
From theory to history: Raji, Mi Familia
This talk stems from and is nourished by the roots of my book, "Raji, Mi Familia". In it, I narrate a story of immigration, resistance, and love that questions the limits of what institutions consider a "family".
During the event, we will connect these theoretical concepts with the book’s narrative, seeking to understand housing not just as property, but as the territory where we defend our identity and our deepest affections against a city that sometimes proves hostile.
Event details
I would love for you to join me to debate, share experiences, and celebrate the diversity of our homes. At the end of the talk, I will be signing copies of the book.
